Here is an image I took at a wedding I attended in Los Angeles in 2009. This was one of the best weddings I have ever shot. The lighting was all out of this world. It was hard to choose between the reception, and the candle light dinner at a restaurant afterward. So I decided to shoot both. This is my standard camera settings when I shoot weddings. I do try and use my flash when a shadow is really needed in and around the subject. But for the most part I don't.
I love the color and exposure in the lighting. I exposed for the soft shadows on the walls and to lose some of the white on the bed. Hard light is key at weddings because it stuns the eyes with their authentic look; and hard light doesn't burn out much of the detail of your images. The action was a combination of defining soft edge along the wall and pushing the whites with the various artistry techniques. I also used my flash off camera in the small room, but this is what I wanted to show to best exemplify my point. d2c66b5586
